Who Watches the Watchtower
Today's Mike's Music Morning is a tribute to one of the greatest songs of all time.
“All Along the Watchtower” was first released by the dude that wrote it in 1967 (that’s Bob Dylan for you youngins). It has been covered dozens of times, most notably by Jimi Hendrix. Here is the original, followed by a few of my faves:
This version has been featured in just about everything. In fact, when I was doing my research, it seems like Bob Dylan has started covering Jimi’s cover of his song in concert:
This next one (and Jimi’s) was featured in the Battlestar Galactica reboot. This version (arranged by Bear McCreary and sung by his brother) is actually my favorite cover. This one in the season 3 finale, and Jimi’s in the series finale:
Finally, this one from Sons of Anarchy. If you haven’t watched it, think of it like Biker Gang Hamlet:
Enjoy your weekend, folks!
