Which is Better? David Lee Roth "Van Halen" or "Van Hagar"??? I want an "Eruption" of comments here, people.
Welcome to the Thunderdome version of Mike’s Music Morning.
Two lead singers enter, one Hagar leaves.
In an ongoing discussion with
, , and about music, along with a few others that have commented (I’m sorry, I’m horrible with names sometimes).[Editor’s Note:
and have jumped in too in the comments! You guys are invited to contribute pieces on your favorite music too! Just send me an email! I’d also invite some of my other favorite writers , , , , , , , , , , , and . We’d very much welcome pieces from you on music or other subjects which interest you! OK, Mike, carry on! And if any of our other readers want to participate, send me an email!]I wish to debate.
I want your challenges to what I say here today.
I think Sammy Hagar was the better lead singer. Also, David Lee Roth now looks like the 60’s Dr. Smith from “Lost in Space”. Sammy Hagar makes tequila.
First, the links… (it’s a big series, if you just want to get to the Poundcake, scroll down)

Hi. Welcome back. So, there’s a few really great songs from the Roth era, I will admit. But, first we must acknowledge the legendary guitarist that is Eddie Van Halen (R.I.P.)
I mean, even Bill and Ted wanted him.
Ok. On with the show.
This is an hilarious video. Our son says that both versions of this song are about Mom: (also, seriously incomplete without the intro, IMHO)
Also, please don’t ever make me watch a David Lee Roth impression of Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs ever again.
This one is used in a lot of my favorite movies:
I feel like this one deserves an honorable mention, despite of a dubious past:
Now. Right now. Down to the meat of my argument in favor of Van Hagar.
You should know I’m rockin’ out while I’m working on this.
I love this entire album. And the acronym.
I promised Poundcake. It’s delicious. Honestly, EVH was a national treasure. Also, this album and the associated music videos dropped when I was 16-17. MTV was still doing music videos and I had little supervision. That’s all I have to say about that.
Some angry music:
Featured in a really cool movie, “Twister”:
Ok, now to some ballads/anthems, and the heart of my debate today…
…or this? It does have more cowbell, after all.
Also, Sammy had an amazing solo career. And he makes tequila.
But, then there’s “Hot For Teacher”….
Good morning from Western Wishes.

I like Sammy Hagar better than David Lee Roth, but I like can't help liking the original Van Halen better. Can I have it both ways?
I like Van Halen no matter who is singing, as long as Eddie's there.
