I’ve often talked bout being a comic book artist and aficionado. For me that also includes movies based of comic properties. The Grandaddy of them all, though, is Superman. The Last Son of Krypton. The Man of Steel. Created in June of 1938 by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, he’s about as iconic as it gets.
Fortunately, his film and television music is also iconic. First, from Maestro John Williams:
I also love this track from the same score. I can picture most of these scenes just listening to this stuff, like the sweeping Kansas countryside when Clark tells Martha he’s got to go:
This one reminds me of Holst a bit.
Ok, let’s switch tracks (pun intended). I’ve always been a big fan of the DCAU (DC Animated Universe). Here’s the theme from the Superman show, and one of my all-time knockdown drag-out fights from Justice League: Unlimited:
On to the next one… This is one of, if not the, most percussively driven movie scores I’ve ever heard. Hans Zimmer assembled the who’s who of drummers:Percussion Session Musicians (from Wikipedia)
Satnam Ramgotra
Ryeland Allison
Let’s start with the first track on the album:
This one is amazing, if you have seen the movie. Well, even when you haven’t… #SpoilerAlert: Superman’s first flight, along with a nod to Christopher Reeve.
I’m going to wrap up with this one. I think it really epitomizes the entire score.
Have a Super day!
Good morning from Western Wishes.

P.S. Some obligatory Superman art

I can't think of a time when Superman ever had a bad score. He's had some bad movies, but even those have good scores.
