I’ll probably get flamed on this, but this is my list… Sorry if I forgot someone I should have remembered.
Let’s start of with The Who’s bassist, John Entwistle (RIP)…
Now, I know this is a cover of a (really excellent) Stevie Wonder song, but I genuinely love Flea’s bass work, especially at the beginning. Also, I love that he was Needles in Back to the Future.
Now, I’ve never been a huge fan of Primus, but Les Claypool kicks @$$ as a bassist.
I love Rush. 2112 remains one of the greatest albums of all-time.
Chris Squire (RIP) from “Yes”:
Love that song. I think that’s enough to be going about for now.
Who’s your favorite?
Good morning from the road.
Kilgore
A Note from Mike: This is the part where I post links to the rest of the series, but it’s getting a bit long. So, I’ll be maintaining THIS POST so you can go through the archives.
To any bass player worth his/her salt, the answer to your question is always the same: "Depends on the night."
That said, these folks deserve a mention:
John Paul Jones-Led Zeppelin
Steve Harris-Iron Maiden
Geezer Butler- Black Sabbath
Alex Webster- Cannibal Corpse
Doug Wimbish - Living Colour (also Muzz Skillings, he made the original records)
Berry Oakley -Allman Brothers
Justin Chamberlain - TOOL
There are more, of course; but "depends on the night".
