The Story of Kilgore, Part 5: ♪♫"Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!"♫♪
Time may change me/But I can't trace time
Hi there, it’s your friendly neighborhood smartass, reporting from Western Wishes…
Over the years, my wife and I have had some rather monumental stuff happen in our lives, in my humble opinion. Started with us finding each other (see here), dating, getting married, having our son, etc… We’ve moved five times together. And we’re still together (which is amazing in and of itself HAHAHAHA!!!)
There have absolutely been peaks and valleys. But, we’ve always managed. Our family motto (“what’s a motto?” “Nothing, what’s a motto with you?”) is “We’ll figure it out.”
As many of you know we bought a house back in September of 2022.
This is a culmination of what we’ve been working toward for the ten years we’ve been married. We’re still getting settled, but making progress. Can’t wait to get my studio finished.
Then you will witness the firepower of the fully-equipped and operational production studio.
Seriously. I have some really wicked cool stuff planned, both personally and for GotD et al.
Anyway. My son’s school was across town until today. Took us 30 minutes to get out there, 30 minutes to get back. Two times a day. Plus traffic around the new place sucks. (See here)
So, we transferred him to an elementary school that’s a mile and a half from here. It’s really nice. And we already like his new teacher more than the one he had yesterday. It also seems more… polished? Keep in mind, for kindergarten and first grade, Glenn was almost primarily remote-learning because of COVID. He’s a very energetic, intelligent lad, who gets bored easily.
Have you ever tried to be a parent and teacher at the same time when it seems like the entire planet is on fire? Just curious. Anywho, we got the job done. It was actually easier to get him to do all of his schoolwork for the day in a couple hours than having to string it along because of Zoom meetings.
Oh! I forgot to mention. Yesterday was his eighth birthday. Had a blast, made out like a bandit (we held some stuff over from Christmas). I actually quoted Merry and Pippen (and Aragorn)…. “What about Christmas?” You’ve already had it. “Well, we’ve had one, yes. But what about Second Christmas?” Took some pics. Wanna see ‘em? Here they are!
Yes, he was born a month after Christmas. But, we try to make sure his birthdays are cool too. Christmas is more about family, his birthday feels more about him. He had a b-day/farewell thing at the other school, I made him my almost famous spaghetti sauce. I didn’t even have to use my AK. I gotta say, yesterday was a good day.
We also got El Boyo Loco a dog. “We have a rule here on Earth. Every kid has to have a dog.” - Col. Jack O’Neill, “Stargate SG-1”
Her name is Winter, and she’s already melted our hearts and become a member of the family. We also got her DNA tested. She’s 100% mutt. But, a lovable mutt, to be sure.
Life is good at Western Wishes. Looking forward to the next twenty or thirty years of changes. Gonna let it rock. Gonna let it roll. Let the good times… well, you know the rest.
Cheers,
Kilgore
